PEDC began working with Base Pair Biotechnologies, a spin-out of medical device developer BioTex, Inc., on its expansion late last year and recruited the corporation to Pearland in 2014. The company develops novel chemical components for research and medical diagnostics made of DNA. These reagents are called “aptamers” and can be used as substitutes for antibodies in many applications. Current clients include various research institutions, universities and pharmaceutical companies.
“
Pearland offers our company a very attractive combination of affordable employee housing, access to a diverse and highly skilled work force, and close proximity to world-class medical research centers for scientific collaboration.
Vicki Singer, President & CEO of Base Pair
“Base Pair’s expansion in Pearland reinforces our community’s reputation as a growing hub for life science and biotech industries,” stated Pearland Mayor, Tom Reid. “The decision to reinvest is the greatest compliment a company can extend to a community and we thank Base Pair Biotechnologies for its continued investment in Pearland.”
Base Pair’s new location includes larger and improved office and laboratory facilities, allowing for increased efficiency in performing custom funded laboratory projects and research and development for its diagnostic, biotech and pharmaceutical clients around the world. The company intends to hire an additional eight employees at its new location.
“Pearland offers our company a very attractive combination of affordable employee housing, access to a diverse and highly skilled work force, and close proximity to world-class medical research centers for scientific collaboration. We are excited about our new space, have hired two new employees after the move, and are recruiting several more,” stated Vicki Singer, President & CEO of Base Pair.
